The FIM tool is a system for measuring disability based on the International Classification of Impairment, Disabilities and Handicaps. It measures how much assistance is required for an individual to carry out activities of daily living (ADLs) based on cognitive and motor ability. 

The Functional Independent Measures (FIM) instrument can only be administered by certified professionals. 

FIM Assessments are appropriate for assessing the care / assistance needs of adults who are experiencing age-related declines in their health or have been diagnosed with a chronic disease, injury or disability including, but not limited to:  

• Brain Injury 
• Multiple Sclerosis 
• Orthopedic Conditions including Low Back Pain 
• Parkinson’s Disease
• Spinal Cord Injury 
• Stroke
